Movie ~ Dodgeball

I have kept Dodgeball for months but I finally watched it last night. This is a 2004 comedy staring Vince Vaughn as Peter La Fleur and Ben Stiller as White Goodman.

I recently watched Vince Vaughn in The Break Up where he partnered with Jennifer Aniston. It is such a coincidence that I also watched Ben Stiller + Jennifer Aniston in Along Came Polly. And is it another coincidence that both Vince and Ben were in Zoolander and Starsky & Hutch?

Vince Vaughn in
Dodgeball cannot be differentiated from Vince Vaughn in The Break Up. In both movies, he was the same; a talking, walking tree trunk.

I thought that Ben Stiller has the kind of looks that will always be the same no matter what movie he acts in. I came to this conclusion after watching Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers and Along Came Polly where Ben Stiller was exactly the same in all three movies.

I have to admit, Ben surprised me in Dodgeball. There was no trace of the Ben I watched in so many movies before. However, I spotted traces of Austin Powers in Ben's White Goodman, and boy was I right when White Goodman was made into a copy of Fat Bastard from one of the Austin Powers movies.

I wonder if the producers or directors are the same people. I never bother to find out these things.

This scene is very funny

Anyway, back to Dodgeball, it is a comedy that brings the message of the good winning over the evil. Peter La Fleur is the good guy while White Goodman is the baddie (despite his name).

Peter La Fleur is he owner of a rundown, debt-ridden gymnasium in the city called Average Joe's while White Goodman is the owner of Globo Gym America Corporation.

White Goodman wants to take over Average Joe's to build a parking garage for his exclusive club members, unless Peter can come up with the USD50,000 mortgage that he owes the bank.

Team Average Joe's Gymnasium

To raise that amount of money within a month, Peter was persuaded to form a dodgeball team with his oddball gym members.

The movie continues with members of The Average Joe's Gymnasium training hard to be good dodgeball players. Meanwhile, White Goodman also wants to be part of the action and forms his own team, called the Purple Cobras.

Team Purple Cobras

This is, after all a movie, and so the finals of the American Dodgeball Association of America (ADAA) International Dodgeball Competition in Las Vegas sees Team Average Joe's Gymnasium facing Team Purple Cobras.

Can the misfits (they had to wear S&M outfits in their first game) that make up Team Average Joe's Gymnasium beat the formidable Team Purple Cobra and win the USD50,000 prize money to save the gymnasium? The answer is in the tag line of the movie: "
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story".

If you want some entertainment without using any brain juice, this is the movie to watch. You will be guaranteed some laughs here and there. Pay close attention to the dialogue as some of the jokes are in the script.

Watch out for cameos by David Hasselhoff, Chuck Norris, William Shatner and Lance Armstrong. I believe this is not an unforgettable movie but it's good while it lasts.
